Xixiang County is located in the southern mountains areas of Shaanxi province with Qinling to the north and Bashan to the south. It lies in east longitude 107 ° 15 '~ 108 ° 15', and north latitude 32 ° 32 '~ 33 ° 14'. Because of the high latitude, wild climate and abundant rainfull. Xixiang is the most suitable place for the tea-growing in northern tea area of China. Green tea is rich in zinc and selenium. With the excellent quality of good fragrance and taste, as well as beautiful shape, which has been sent to the Emperors from the ancient and now Xixiang has been considered to be the famous tea base. In 1994, Xixiang green tea passed the national certification, in 1997, Xixiang was named as China famous tea hometown by Food Association. In 1999, Xixiang awarded China well- known economic tea hometown, and in 2005, Xixiang government received fame of the government developing contribution of tea industry.
Xixiang has a long history of tea panting which began in the Warring States Period, developing in Qin and Han period, and prospered in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. From the ancient times, Xixiang is an important tea place for tea horse trade. Since the late of last century, the government of Xixiang grasped the tea development as a key leading industry to enrich Xixiang, people in Xixiang did their best to develop tea industry, and made it developed very fast. By 2009, the county's tea plantation area was 2,240,000 mu, of which production area was 1,310,000 mu, the total production of tea was 4963.2 tons (mainly about spring tea, a little in summer, and almost no autumn tea), and achieved 540 million yuan at current price. Tea plantation account for 43.3% of all the plantation and 30.2% of agriculture. GDP of the county's contribution rate is 15.5%. Tea planting scale , output and value in Xixiang are all the first in Shaanxi province and become the biggest tea planting base of the province's northwest region.
